Fuyu persimmons are a tomato-shaped fruit that is seasonally available during winter. These fruit have a thin orange skin with a sweet flavor that tastes like a blend of apricot, mango, papaya, and apple with a hint of citrus. Fuyu persimmons should only be eaten when ripe as unripe fruit are very high in tannins and particularly astringent.
Uses: Fuyu persimmons will ripen at room temperature. They can be eaten when the fruit is hard but gives slightly or left to ripen until softened. Ripening can be sped up by submerging the fruit in uncooked rice.
