Mentaiko is seasoned pollack roe that is ubiquitous in Japanese cuisine as a condiment, flavoring, topping, and garnish. Mentaiko and tarako are both made from cod roe with mentaiko being seasoned and marinated while tarako is plain and salted. Mentaiko is intensely savory and rich in umami with subtly sweet seafood flavor. This mentaiko is fully cleaned with membrane removed; it is ready-to-eat and a wonderful addition to savory foods such as eggs, pasta, and rice.
