Rambutans are a variety of tropical fruit from Southeast Asia that are in the same family as lychee and longan. They are named after the Malay word for hair due to their hairy golf ball-like appearance. Rambutans are sweet, succulent, and meaty with a rich floral aroma. These delicious fruits are a common snack where they are available; the mild flavor is perfect for nearly all occasions. Despite its appearance; the menacing spikes are soft and the thick skin can be peeled easily by hand.
Uses: Use your thumb to push into the center width-wise and pull. The top half of the rambutan shell should separate easily leaving the soft white meat exposed.
