Pineapples are delicious and sweet with a some acidity. Each pineapple plant yields a single fruit. These pineapples are the first harvest of each plant meaning that the fruits are larger, taller, and more aromatic. Pineapples are perfectly ripe when the bottom of the fruit smells intensely pineapple-y and slightly fermented.
Uses: Raw pineapple can be used in fruit salads to great effect. Grill pineapples until caramelized to concentrate their sweetness. Add pineapples to your marinades to aid in tenderizing meat (pineapples have natural enzymes that break down proteins!).
Each pineapple is about 5 lbs.
