Hachiya persimmons are a large acorn-shaped fruit that is seasonally available during winter. These fruit have a thin orange skin with a sweet flavor that tastes like a blend of cinnamon, brown sugar, and apricots. Hachiya persimmons should only be eaten when fully ripe as unripe fruit are very high in tannins and particularly astringent.
Uses: Hachiya persimmons will ripen at room temperature. They should only be eaten when the fruit is uniformly soft to the touch. Ripening can be sped up by submerging the fruit in uncooked rice.
Each order of persimmons contain 4-6 pieces.
