Abalone is a large marine gastropod mollusk with highly prized meat that is considered a culinary delicacy. They are considered one of the most luxurious foods in the world. Abalone are extremely flavorful but require a long time to cook in order to tenderize its tough muscles. Dried abalone is a traditional method to concentrate the natural flavors of seafood as the removal of moisture plays a crucial 9part in condensing umami and allowing the absorption of additional flavors during the cooking process as the abalone rehydrates. These hand-harvested abalone are of superior quality and are richly flavorful with little to no fishiness or off-odors.
Uses: Soak abalone in water overnight or for a minimum of 8 hours to rehydrate. Simmer abalone gently in flavorful liquid for several hours or until tender. Abalone pair exceptionally well with shiitake mushrooms, oyster sauce, and dried scallops.
Dried abalone can expand up to three times their size when rehydrated. Each order contains 4-6 pieces of abalone based on size.
